Adolescent Found Deceased After Untrue Accusations of Stealing Cremated Remains
One teenage youth was discovered deceased only a few days after being wrongly blamed of taking the cremated remains of a dead baby during a burglary, an inquest has learned.
Tragic Finding
The young boy's mother and father discovered his remains in his room at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.
False Accusations Begin
The inquest learned how his mother received a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual asking if her son was her offspring. The message added: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."
In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, asserting her infant's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was untrue.
Police Investigation
An investigation report from police later concluded the supposed burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said property was never stolen in the first place".
News coverage about the supposed stolen ashes attracted social media comments, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".
The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.
Emotional Wellbeing Effect
She added that Kai had been identified with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions genuinely mattered to him.
"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".
The teenager was arrested at his residence, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a police station and later freed under investigation.
Authorities said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had failed to contacted the family by the moment of his passing.
Withdrawal and Worry
His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".
When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her child told her he had gone into the house because the woman who resided there had said he could use the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied taking anything.
Digital Harassment
In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being harassed digitally after the allegations.
The proceedings learned that one young adult urged the teenager to end his life.
She had no concerns on the night before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".
She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".
He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".
School Reaction
The inquest received testimony from educational personnel at Connah's Quay High School.
On 8 November, she "overheard some boys discussing that the student had been detained and that was the first I heard".
"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.
After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's parents' landline and left a voicemail saying she had spoken to the student about the accusations.
The proceedings heard his family said they did not got that communication.
Formal Finding
Lead coroner informed the hearing he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.
Delivering a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.
"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.
"During November 11th, he was questioned by the police and following his interview he was released while inquiries proceeded."
The coroner concluded: "Exists no evidence that the acts or omissions of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is impossible to discern his purpose."
