Two victims fatally injured in an attack on a religious center in Manchester have been revealed by law enforcement as Adrian Daulby, 53, and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz.

Three more people continue receiving medical care with critical wounds after Jihad Al-Shamie drove a vehicle into people before attacking with a knife on Thursday morning.

The attack, which police have said was a act of terrorism, took place during Judaism's holiest day, the holiest day in the Jewish tradition.

The attacker, who was fatally shot at the location, was a 35-year-old UK national of Syrian heritage who was not previously identified to terrorism investigators, as stated by security officials.

Community Response

"Right now our hearts are shattered," Britain's senior Jewish leader stated.

During a conversation on a prominent media outlet, he stated: "What transpired yesterday was a devastating impact to us, something which we had apprehensions regarding might happen because of the build up."

The attack was not only "an extremely difficult period" for the British Jewish community "but for everyone in our country," he continued.

Government Response

"Our obligation is to ensure our Jewish population, our people can conduct their daily activities with security and assurance," the Home Secretary announced.

"We cannot allow Jewish citizens in our country to feel like they have to live a smaller Jewish life, that they cannot pursue their activities and observe their religion and visit their worship places in freedom," she stated.

The attacker was not recognized to terrorism investigators, she informed media outlets, and it was "too early" to say if there was a organized group behind the attack.

Investigation Update

The police investigation was "moving forward quickly" and there was an increased police presence at synagogues across the UK.

"Funding is available for safety resources," the official stated, adding: "We must evaluate what further actions we can take to combat rising antisemitism."

Law enforcement officials said they were supporting the families of the two men killed.

"Our heartfelt condolences are with Mr Daulby and Mr Cravitz's loved ones at this extremely hard time," the lead investigator expressed.

He indicated that specialized support personnel were in contact with them and would maintain assistance through the official inquiries.

"Although procedures exist which must be followed, we pledge to remain sensitive of cultural preferences and sensitivities and to guaranteeing that the deceased and their loved ones' wishes are respected," he said, mentioning that the deceased individuals were from the local area.

Post-mortems are scheduled on Friday, according to official sources.
